Deniliquin is situated on the Edward River in the South Western Riverina. The Edward River is an anabranch of the Murray.
Deniliquin’s population is approximately 8000 and it is largely a farming community, featuring sheep, cattle. rice, cotton and other cereal cropping. Irrigation farming is a large proportion of this. Irrigation water is supplied from the Hume Weir in Albury.
Deniliquin is best known for the Ute Muster, which is held on the first weekend in October each year and attracts people from all over the world. There are approximately 1200 tourist beds in Deniliquin and these include award winning caravan parks. Restaurants and hotels cater well for visitors.
U3A began in Deniliquin in 2005. It meets at the RSL in Deniliquin and currently offer courses all weekdays as well as special activities coinciding with community events. U3A also invites guest speakers periodically. Membership is continuing to grow as well as the range of activities.
